Buildsmith answers the questions you actually have in front of the game: is this item better than that one, what do I farm next, where is that dungeon, what does this affix really do. It covers Diablo IV Season 15, patch 3.2.1, with an item database, a Horadric Cube calculator, an interactive map of Sanctuary, a build planner and a damage estimator.
Everything you make is yours. Builds, map annotations and progress live in your own browser and work with no account at all. An account adds saving builds across devices and publishing them to the build catalog; map annotations and progress stay in the browser either way, and nothing is uploaded until you press the button.
Three sources, in descending order of authority. Blizzard's own patch notes and the game's own parsed data files, which settle anything they cover. Community theorycrafting for the parts Blizzard has never published, chiefly the damage formula. And this site's own research passes, which cross-check the first two and record where they disagree.
Where sources conflict, the conflict is kept rather than resolved silently: a disputed value says it is disputed and gives both readings. Where something is unknown it is left empty rather than guessed. The damage estimator says plainly on the page that Blizzard has never published the formula and that the output is for comparing two choices, not for predicting a number.
The data and the code are checked by a suite of automated checks, and nearly every check has a companion that breaks the thing it guards on purpose and requires the check to notice. A check that cannot fail is worse than no check, because it reads like coverage. That is how several real errors here were found, including a damage multiplier that paid out in full on a character with no critical strike chance.
