# Soul Splinters are a deliberate high-risk/high-reward socketable system - the drawback is the balancing act, not a rounding error

Eight jewelry-socketable Soul Splinters exist, each pairing a strong bonus with a serious drawback; up to three can be equipped at once, and the entire skill in using them is picking a combination whose drawbacks your specific build can shrug off.

Diablo IV patch 3.2.1. Category: season15. Evidence: Likely.

## Detail
Documented combos: Mother (Unhindered + Vulnerable-on-contact, but Stunned after touching 250 enemies) pairs with Pain (+40% Damage Reduction, -30% Movement Speed) because Mother's Unhindered status directly negates Pain's movement penalty. Anguish (+35% Crit Chance & Attack Speed, +30% Primary Resource Costs) plus Black Soulstone (+5% damage per Soul for 15s, +0.5% damage taken per Soul) plus Pain layers offense with defense to offset Black Soulstone's stacking vulnerability. Hellfire (+100% Damage, -100% Critical Strike Chance) plus Pain plus Sin (+40% Max Life, -30% Max Primary Resource) builds around abandoning Crit entirely in favor of raw multiplicative damage and Life.

## Why it works
Each Splinter's drawback targets a specific stat category (resource, mobility, crit, life, difficulty); the combos above work because each drawback is paired with either a direct counter (Mother negating Pain's Movement Speed loss) or a build archetype that was already de-prioritizing that stat (a non-Crit-reliant build ignoring Hellfire's Crit removal).

## Numbers
Equip limit: 3 Soul Splinters. Anguish: +35% Crit Chance & Attack Speed / +30% Primary Resource Costs. Sin: +40% Max Life / -30% Max Primary Resource. Lies: +100% Gold & Materials, +25% XP / permanent Weakened+Vulnerable (on yourself). Black Soulstone: +5% damage per Soul, 15s duration / +0.5% damage taken per Soul. Pain: +40% Damage Reduction / -30% Movement Speed. Mother: Unhindered + Vulnerable enemies on contact / Stunned 4s after touching 250 enemies. Hellfire: +100% Damage / -100% Critical Strike Chance. Damnation: Elite kills raise Monster Power +1 for 25s / self-imposed difficulty increase.

## How to use it
Before picking a Soul Splinter combo, identify which stat category your build already doesn't need (a non-Crit DoT build can ignore Hellfire's downside entirely; an Unhindered/Unstoppable-heavy build can ignore Pain's Movement Speed loss) and build the combo around that blind spot.
